Thank you for making time to check out my third video. Here is the resource I mentioned:
How Old Is The Shepherd? video
If you plan to try this experiment with students, here are a few recommendations for how to do it.
- First, make sure everyone is using the same kind of paper and writing device.
- Next, set up a serious test environment. If you have testing dividers, use them. One kid laughing will ruin the experience, so keep your poker face.
- Next, have students write their answers on their paper but tell them not to write their name.
- Then, once students have had sufficient time, have them crumple up their paper and throw them at each other for a little while like it was a snow ball fight. Then have everyone pick up a paper and uncrumple it.
- It’s at this point that you’ll see why it’s so important to use the same paper and writing device because now nobody knows who wrote what, and your class can have an honest conversation about what people are thinking without feelings getting hurt.
- Finally, show them the shepherd video so that they can realize that they are not alone and have a good laugh.
