Robert Kaplinsky presented at the California Math Council South Conference on November 2-3, 2012 in Palm Springs, California.

The first presentation, Teaching Slope Conceptually For CST And Common Core Success, focused on what students are expected to know about slope under the outgoing California Content Standards as well as the incoming Common Core State Standards.  We reviewed a lesson discussed in more detail here that will help lead students to conceptual success with both set of standards.

The second presentation, Refining Questioning Skills to Assess Student Understanding, with Melissa Canham helped teachers to practice their questioning skills to meet the expectations of the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice. The Common Core State Standards require students to “justify their conclusions, communicate them to others, and respond to the arguments of others.”
